How We Count 5,000 Micro Pieces Per Set Without a Single Error

Nanoblock micro building blocks are among the most challenging products to package accurately. A single deluxe set can contain over 5,000 individual pieces, each measuring just 4mm. Missing even one piece means the builder cannot complete the model. Here is how we achieve perfect accuracy at scale. The Scale of the Challenge Consider the nanoblock Mont Saint-Michel deluxe edition: 5,360 pieces in 15-20 different colors, sorted into multiple bags. At a production volume of 5,000 sets, that is over 26 million individual pieces that must be counted and sorted correctly. Even a 99.9% accuracy rate would mean 26,000 errors — unacceptable for a premium product. MCGS Vibrating Bowl Counting Matrix Our factory operates an array of MCGS-controlled vibrating bowl counting machines specifically configured for micro building blocks. Each machine handles one color or part type. The vibrating bowl uses precisely calibrated frequency and amplitude to feed parts in single file along a spiral track. Photo-Electric Precision As parts pass the counting point, a high-sensitivity photo-electric sensor detects each individual piece. The sensor can distinguish between a single 4mm block and two blocks stuck together, rejecting doubles and ensuring only correctly separated pieces are counted. The MCGS touch-panel interface allows operators to set target counts and monitor real-time throughput. Multi-Bag Sorting Protocol For complex sets, parts are counted into color-sorted bags. Each bag is weighed on an electronic scale as a secondary verification. The weight must fall within a calculated tolerance range that corresponds to the correct number of pieces. Any bag outside the weight window is flagged for manual recount. Barcode Traceability Every bag receives a barcode label linking it to the production batch, machine number, operator and timestamp. If a quality issue is ever reported, we can trace it back to the exact machine and production run. The Result Our automated counting system maintains a verified accuracy rate that effectively eliminates missing-piece complaints. For our nanoblock production runs, we have achieved zero missing-piece returns across millions of units shipped to Kawada and other micro building block brands.
